The “Privacy Policy” governs GEN-STEM's collection, use, and protection of personal information in compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles and the Privacy Act 1988. 

 

Policy Purpose and Principles:

  • Secure and Lawful Data Handling: GEN-STEM commits to collecting and managing personal data fairly and securely.

  • Consent-Driven Use: Stories and submissions are only used for GEN-STEM's mission with the individual’s informed consent.

  • Data Security: Information is protected against unauthorised access or disclosure.

  • Right to Access and Correction: Individuals may access or update their personal data.

  • Minimum Age: You must be 18 or older to participate or submit information.

  • No Third-Party Selling: GEN-STEM will not sell your data.

  • Retention: Data will be de-identified or destroyed when no longer needed.

Collection of Personal Information:

  • GEN-STEM collects names, contact details, demographic info, and personal reflections through online forms, emails, or interviews.

  • Information is collected to document experiences of underrepresented groups in STEM and to inform programs and outreach.

Information Storage and Disclosure:

  • Data is stored on secure cloud services and protected by access controls.

  • GEN-STEM may use trusted third-party platforms (e.g., Google) to manage submissions. These providers are subject to privacy and data security requirements.

Consent and Use:

  • By submitting content, you grant GEN-STEM permission to use, adapt, and publish your story (with your consent) to support its mission.

  • You retain ownership of your submitted content, and you can request that it be anonymised or removed.

  • GEN-STEM will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

 

Collection Notice: GEN-STEM (Gender Equity Network in STEM) collects your personal information to support our mission of documenting and sharing the experiences of underrepresented voices in STEM. Participation is voluntary and limited to individuals aged 18 and over. By submitting your story, you consent to GEN-STEM collecting and using your personal information for community-building, advocacy, and research. Your data may be used in publications or digital communications (with your consent and option for anonymity). Your data is stored securely and will not be disclosed to third parties unless required by law or necessary for technical operations.
